A beginner deserves
the missing steps.

What can I grow here? When do I start? What does this plant need, and what do I do with the harvest?

The Great Canadian Garden Bible is being developed to connect those questions in one practical reference, with Canadian conditions in mind. You can enter through a region, a plant family, a planting window or the food you want to grow.

The current compiled manuscript contains 679 pages and describes 187 food-crop groups. These are development figures, not a final printed specification. Format, publication date and price are not yet announced.

From the foreword

“That was ordinary life to me.”

When Tyler was growing up, someone was making mustard relish, preserving beets and beans, or quietly repairing something another person needed. His grandparents, Phyllis and Bob, made resourcefulness and care part of daily life.

The book carries those roots into a beginner’s experience. Its purpose is to make the basic questions welcome and give people enough understanding to adapt what they learn to their own place.

“Plant something you want to eat.
Learn what helps it grow.
And when you have enough, share a little.”

The first volume in a wider idea

A homestead is a set of relationships.

The planned series would continue into livestock, off-grid DIY and the systems that support a capable homestead. Each volume should help a reader connect one part of the work to the others.

The Garden Bible is the first focus. Further titles, formats and release dates are not yet commitments. The book is not currently being offered for preorder through this site.
